How it works

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Add your HEIC files

Drop HEIC files onto the converter, click to choose them, or paste from the clipboard. Add as many as you like.

  2. Check the settings

PNG is already selected. Set a maximum width or height if you want smaller images.

  3. Download your PNG images

Each file gets its own download button as soon as it's ready. Download all saves everything in one ZIP file.

The formats

HEIC and PNG at a glance

  • What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads save photos in by default. It stores a photo in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality, and it can hold extras like depth data. Windows, many Android apps, and most websites still struggle to open it, which is why HEIC photos often need converting before you share or upload them. It opens in iPhone, iPad, and Mac (Photos and Preview), Safari, Windows 10 and 11 with Microsoft's HEIF and HEVC extensions, and recent Android phones. Most other browsers and upload forms can't open it.

  • What is a PNG file?

PNG is a lossless image format, so it keeps every pixel exactly as it was saved. It supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it the usual choice for logos, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges or text. A photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than the same photo as a JPG. It opens in every web browser, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, iPhone and Android galleries, and editors like Photoshop, GIMP, and Figma.

Good to know

What changes when you convert HEIC to PNG

  • PNG is lossless, so the image won't lose any more quality, but it can't restore detail that HEIC compression already removed. Expect a bigger file.
  • Live Photos and bursts convert as a single still photo, and HDR photos are converted to standard range.
  • Metadata such as the camera model, date, and GPS location isn't copied to the new file, so you don't share your location by accident.
  • Very large images, around 100 megapixels or more, can exceed what the browser allows, especially on phones.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is this HEIC to PNG converter free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you convert. It costs Ethical Tube nothing to run, because the conversion happens on your own device rather than on a server.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser with the browser's built-in image codecs plus small WebAssembly encoders, so your files never leave your device. Once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

Does converting HEIC to PNG lose quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so the converted image has exactly the pixels of the HEIC. It can't undo compression that the HEIC already has, though, and the file may be bigger.

Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC photos?

Yes. Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, and videos as H.264. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those here.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. They're converted one after another, and you can download each PNG file as soon as it's ready or all of them in one ZIP file.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on computers, iPhones, and Android phones.

What can open a PNG file?

Every web browser, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, iPhone and Android galleries, and editors like Photoshop, GIMP, and Figma.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The practical limit is your device's memory: everyday files are fine, and most computers handle images up to about 100 megapixels.
