How it works

How to convert JFIF to JPG

  1. Add your JFIF files

Drop JFIF files onto the converter, click to choose them, or paste from the clipboard. Add as many as you like.

  2. Check the settings

JPG is already selected and there's nothing to adjust, because the image data is kept as it is.

  3. Download your JPG images

Each file gets its own download button as soon as it's ready. Download all saves everything in one ZIP file.

The formats

JFIF and JPG at a glance

  • What is a JFIF file?

A JFIF file is a regular JPEG image with a different extension. Windows and some browsers save pictures from the web as .jfif, and many apps and upload forms reject the extension even though the image inside is a normal JPG. It opens in browsers and Windows Photos. Many upload forms and older apps only accept .jpg, which is why people convert JFIF files.

  • What is a JPG file?

JPG (also written JPEG) is the most common format for photos. Its lossy compression discards detail your eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps files small, and you can trade size for quality when you save. It has no transparency, and saving the same image again and again slowly adds visible artifacts. It opens in practically everything: browsers, phones, cameras, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, Word and Google Docs, every photo editor, and every website that accepts uploads.

Good to know

What changes when you convert JFIF to JPG

  • Only the file extension changes. The picture, its quality, and its metadata stay exactly the same.
  • Very large images, around 100 megapixels or more, can exceed what the browser allows, especially on phones.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is this JFIF to JPG converter free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you convert. It costs Ethical Tube nothing to run, because the conversion happens on your own device rather than on a server.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser with the browser's built-in image codecs plus small WebAssembly encoders, so your files never leave your device. Once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

Does converting JFIF to JPG lose quality?

No. A JFIF file already contains JPG data, so the converter only gives it a .jpg name. The picture isn't re-encoded at all.

Can I convert several JFIF files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. They're converted one after another, and you can download each JPG file as soon as it's ready or all of them in one ZIP file.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on computers, iPhones, and Android phones.

What can open a JPG file?

Practically everything: browsers, phones, cameras, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, Word and Google Docs, every photo editor, and every website that accepts uploads.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The practical limit is your device's memory: everyday files are fine, and most computers handle images up to about 100 megapixels.
